body work

Catherine offers the following bodywork modalities as a Licensed Massage Therapist:

Therapeutic Massage

Therapeutic Massage is a scientific system of manipulations on the muscles and connective tissues of the body for the purpose of relaxation, rehabilitation and health maintenance. Catherine's ability to integrate the practices of Swedish, deep tissue, Positional Therapy and sports massage offers each client a uniquely satisfying experience.

Abhyanga-Garshana

This is an ancient Ayurvedic treatment, featuring a dry lymphatic skin brushing with a silk glove, followed by an individualized herbal oil treatment. The brushing (garshana) increases circulation, and cleans the skin so herbal oil treatment can penetrate deeply. The individually prepared herbal-oil massage (abhyanga) nourishes the skin, aids in removing impurities, stimulates both arterial and lymphatic circulation, and relaxes the mind and body, promoting overall healing. This treatment enhances the ability of nutrients to reach starved cells and also removes stagnant waste. The desired result is a heightened state of awareness that will direct the internal healing system of the body.

Ayurvedic Face and Marma Therapy

Begins with warm ginger comresses and marma-point massage, supporting facial health. Then a cleansing and relaxing facial that uses an herbal mask and special oils for your body type.

Marma Therapy

A powerful energy balancing though gentle circular motions with herbalized oils. Using pure essential oils, the Marma Point Therapy promotes subtle energy cleansing and rebalancing which restores the memory of wholeness. It is a combination of energy balancing and a light touch over the marma points, which is very subtle, yet profoundly relaxing. Marma points are the gateways in the body where the body and mind communicate. By stimulating the marmas, blocks due to stress and improper diet can be dissolved, making the mind body connection more balanced.

Shirodhara

Shirodhara is a luxuriant and easy way to achieve instant calm and rejuvenation. It derives from two Sanskrit words: shiro and dhara. Shiro means head and dhara means to flow. It involves the warm and consistent flow of aromatic oils on the forehead, specifically on the ‘third eye’. This is the chakra point just above and between the eyebrows. It is said to be the seat of human consciousness. The oils are allowed to flow over the scalp and through the hair, creating a blissful sensation. Health and beauty spas that offer shirodhara are careful to create a comfortable and tranquil environment with atmospheric background music and a soft treatment table. Lying on your back, your body will be cocooned in warmed towels and your head will be positioned under the oil ‘fountain’ – a metal bottle with a slow-flowing spout from which the oils will stream gently onto the forehead.
